From A Genealogy of the Ricker Family, "[After marrying] they moved to Sheepscot (now Newcastle), New Hampshire and soon after to Wells, Maine where they settled on a tract of land within two miles of Kennebunk, situated on the Northern branch of Little River and about one-half mile from a settlement on the South side of the river called Harrisachett, from an Indian village once situated there. They lived on this place until August, 1762 when their dwellings were burned by the Indians. The family escaped, losing everything except the clothes they wore and a cow which the Indians did not find. They later built a house near the garrison. Maturin and Lois both died at Wells at the home of their son Stephen between 1788 and 1790."

James GARCELON about 1752 ~ born Apr 4, 1739 on the Isle of Guernsey, Channel Islands, England.  James Garcelon was the first of that name that came to America, when a boy, about 13 or 14 years old, in 1752 or 3 - as a cabin boy, and served his time with a Mr. Pane in Boston.  James may have been apprenticed to a Captain Daniel Gibb or Gibbs.  He married Deliverance Annis Feb 29, 1760 at Gloucester, MA, where they lived until the eve of the American revolution.  They moved first to Falmouth (now Freeport) and then on to what is now Lewiston, ME in 1776, and settled at Lewiston Falls, and lived in the Varnum House, near the cove at the head of the falls, where their youngest daughter, Sally, was born, June 27th 1776.  He died Nov 17, 1813 at Lewiston, ME.  A number of letters from his father, Pierre, give a glimpse of the hardships endured by New Englanders during the Revolutionary War.  William Garcelon penned a history of Lewiston which includes much genealogical information about the first four generations of Garcelon in this country.
